What a body serum actually is, and how it differs from lotion
Oil-based body products are sold under a name that means different things on different labels. Here is what is inside one Canadian formulation, and what its maker says about using it.
Serum and lotion are not the same category
A body lotion is mostly water, held together with an emulsifier. A body serum, in the sense used on most labels, contains little or no water: it is a blend of oils and butters, sometimes with a wax to give it structure.
That single difference explains what people notice first. With no water to evaporate, a serum does not cool the skin as it goes on. And because the oils are not diluted, a smaller amount covers the same area — which is why serum bottles tend to be smaller than lotion bottles and still last longer.
Neither format is better in the abstract. They behave differently, and the choice usually comes down to skin type, climate and how you like something to feel.
Why some are meant for wet skin
Oil-based products are often labelled for damp skin rather than dry. The reasoning is straightforward: water is already sitting on the surface, and the oil goes on top of it rather than instead of it.
Beauty From Bees puts this at the centre of its own instructions. The company tells customers to keep the bottle in the shower, turn the water off, apply to wet skin, and dry off afterwards — the stated aim being that the product ends up on the skin rather than on the towel.

What is on this particular label
The unscented version lists six ingredients. Using the INCI names printed on the packaging:
- Persea Gratissima — avocado oil
- Ricinus Communis — castor seed oil
- Cocos Nucifera — coconut oil
- Butyrospermum Parkii — shea butter
- Cera Flava — beeswax
- Rosmarinus Officinalis — rosemary leaf extract
Scented versions add a fragrance component. It is sold unscented and in six scents: sweet vanilla, orange, lemon, lavender, lime, and a grapefruit-and-peppermint blend.

Sizes, price and practical detail
Three sizes: 120 ml (4 oz), 250 ml (8 oz) and 1 litre (32 oz). The 250 ml bottle is listed at CAD 32.00 on the company's Canadian store. Asked how long one lasts, the company's own FAQ answers four to six months for that size, depending on use.
Products are formulated and manufactured in Canada. Shipping is free on Canadian orders above CAD 125, and the company offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee.
Worth knowing before buying any skincare
Patch test on a small area first, particularly if your skin reacts easily. Read the full list if you have a known allergy — this formula contains both a nut-derived ingredient and a bee-derived one, which matters to some people.
If you have a skin condition that is under treatment, or one that is not settling, that is a conversation for a doctor or a dermatologist rather than a cosmetic purchase.
